REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK: Another St. Paul Rodeo for the ages

Over the course of five days, a tiny Oregon town of less than 450 residents hosts tens of thousands of people eager to celebrate the Fourth of July and the truly American spectacle of rodeo.

The 2026 St. Paul Rodeo was no different, except this year it just happened to be on the 250th birthday of the nation, so there’s that.

There were more displays of red, white and blue than you could shake a stick, or perhaps a corndog, at. There were vendors hawking traditional cowboy boots, silver belt buckles and Stetsons to people who likely don’t know one end of a cow from the other…
