Preparing for takeoff, major commercial airlines and airport authority officials are making way for direct service at Naples Airport. The first commercial flights are being planned by American Airlines with ticket sales underway. American Airlines flights ceased in Naples 25 years ago and it’s been nine years since the last commercial flight in Naples.
“We’ve been asked for years about the potential return of airline service,” said Chris Rozansky, executive director of the Naples Airport Authority. “Travel doesn’t get more convenient for our residents and visitors than catching a flight out of Naples Airport.”
Naples Airport, dubbed APF, has long been available for private aviation, charter flights and small airlines. Now, major airlines, predominantly American Airlines, make way for major commercial flights with tickets already sold by American Airlines, according to company leaders. Most Naples’ residents and visitors flying in and out of the area will continue to use commercial flight services provided by Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, RSW, as these negotiations in Naples still provide a limited number of flights to Naples…
