Betsy Lake confirmed as Oakland’s interim city administrator

After a couple weeks of uncertainty, Oakland has a new temporary city administrator.

The City Council voted 6-2 on Tuesday to confirm Elizabeth “Betsy” Lake as interim city administrator. The appointment, made by Mayor Barbara Lee, comes two months after former City Administrator Jestin Johnson resigned in a text message scandal.

Lake has worked for the city since 2018, serving as both deputy and assistant city administrator. She assumed the top job on an acting basis when Johnson left.
