PULASKI, Wis. (WBAY) – The Pulaski High School band returned home Monday after the Salute to Independence parade in Philadelphia was cancelled due to extreme heat, ending a nearly 16-hour trip that the band had been preparing for since May.
Temperatures exceeding 100 degrees led organizers to cancel the parade and the performances of 50 high school marching bands from across the country.
An impromptu performance
Despite the cancellation, the Red Raider band performed in a standstill format. That performance aired on WPVI, a sister station in Philadelphia.
“It was definitely disappointing, I’d say. It was kind of like this whole big thing that we’d practiced and worked so hard for. But I think the band did a good job of just kind of like taking it in and being sad about it, but still moving forward and being able to do that other performance,” said Paige Duffrin, an incoming senior and piccolo player…
