Sugar Land seeks public input for new community mural

SUGAR LAND, Texas (CW39) – Sugar Land is asking residents to help shape a new mural that will tell the story of the community through local memories, landmarks and traditions. The city is partnering with Texas artist Tyler Kay Designs to create a one-of-a-kind mural in the Imperial Historic District and is collecting ideas from residents before the design process begins.

Officials say the project will highlight the people, places and moments that help define Sugar Land. The mural will be one of the first visible changes planned for the Imperial Historic District as the area continues its transformation.

Why is Sugar Land creating this mural?

The City of Sugar Land said the mural is designed to reflect the identity of the community and celebrate the stories that make the city unique.

So, instead of starting with a blank canvas, the artist is asking residents to help provide the inspiration behind the artwork. The city wants the mural to represent more than just a design on a wall – it wants the finished piece to connect with the people who live, work and visit Sugar Land. Residents are encouraged to think about the places and experiences that have shaped their connection to the city.

How can residents share their ideas?

Community members can submit their suggestions through the city’s Imperial Mural Project webpage. The city is looking for responses about favorite Sugar Land locations, meaningful traditions, personal memories and other details that capture the community’s character…
