On Tuesday morning, Christine Neumann-Ortiz sat before reporters to announce the dozens of immigration arrests that had taken place in Milwaukee and Waukesha. Then, the executive director of Voces de la Frontera interrupted the Q&A portion of the press conference to report an additional three arrests in Fitchburg.

“I do have an update from our team that we do have confirmed three ICE detentions in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. That was from today,” Neumann-Ortiz said. She translated the message into Spanish.

In the five days leading up to July 4, ICE arrests surged to 10,000. The new standard of enforcement, at the behest of the White House, is 2,000 a day, up from 1,000 earlierr this year, according to a New York Times report from July 1…
