Norwalk City Council passes first reading of ordinance that could fine parents when kids violate e-bike laws

NORWALK, Iowa (KCCI) — Parents in Norwalk could soon get fined if their kids don’t follow rules for electric scooters and bikes.

The Norwalk City Council passed the first reading of its ordinance at last week’s meeting. Under the proposal, anyone riding these devices would need to yield to pedestrians, front and rear lights would be required to ride at night and e-bikes and scooters would not be allowed on streets with a speed limit above 25 mph.

Riders would have to be at least 12 years old to use the devices in public…
