Charleston adjusts operations due to extreme heat warning

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Charleston area that will continue through Thursday, July 9.

“Extreme Heat Risk levels of this kind are rare, and conditions represent an escalation beyond the heat experienced earlier this week. The City of Charleston urges residents and visitors to take additional precautions and is adjusting several city operations accordingly,” the city said.

The city says garbage and trash collection crews will operate on an abbreviated schedule Thursday, running until 1 p.m. All peninsula routes will be completed. Friday collection will follow the same abbreviated schedule, with crews completing James Island routes…
