Data: Alcohol-related crashes disproportionately deadly on El Paso roads

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) delivered a DWI Presentation to the City Council on Tuesday, July 7, that offered a stark and sobering look at the city’s roads.

The data showed that while overall traffic incidents through April of this year are holding steady, the consequences of driving while intoxicated remain disproportionately deadly.

According to EPPD data, while alcohol-related crashes make up less than 1 percent of all crashes in El Paso, they account for 35 percent of all traffic fatalities over the last three and a half years, and 37 percent from January through April of 2026.
