NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — City leaders introduced plans for the New Orleans East Investment and Job Corridor, which promises to turn the neighborhood into a driver for economic activity.
“New Orleans East is the biggest part of the city that you can point to, to have the largest potential,” said New Orleans City Councilor Matthew Willard. “The city will not be uplifted, and reach its pinnacle, until New Orleans east is uplifted, and reaches its pinnacle.”

The plan focuses on two specific areas where leaders say the time is right to capitalize on momentum that is currently happening.
The first is being called the Port and Logistics Corridor, which would attract maritime, warehousing and distribution industries to sites along Interstate 510, between Interstate 10 and the Mississippi River.
“What’s different this time is that the port is coming online over the next three to four years. That didn’t exist before. We didn’t have a Louisiana International Terminal that was going to be driving trucks literally up the I-510 corridor,” said Michael Hecht, president and CEO of Greater New Orleans, Inc.There is also the Michoud Innovation Corridor, which would focus on advanced manufacturing, and aerospace companies that will look to supplement the vital role the Michoud Assembly Facility is playing in NASA’s efforts to bring people back to the moon and beyond…
