WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Hutchison Fire Department performed an unusual rescue at the Kansas State Fairgrounds on Wednesday morning, saving three ducklings that had found themselves stuck inside a storm drain.
The predicament drew attention from a concerned citizen who was walking his dogs nearby. After noticing a distressed duckling, he made his way to Fire Station 1 to ask for help.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a duckling trapped deep inside a narrow storm drain. A firefighter was lowered inside, only to discover two more ducklings trapped farther down.
“Crews quickly relocated and worked together to rescue the remaining ducklings, successfully bringing all three fluffy victims safely back above ground,” the department wrote in a press release.

While crews worked to find the missing mother, the ducklings were taken to the fire station for a “first-class spa treatment,” which included a Dawn dish soap bath.
Around noon, their mother was located near Lake Talbott. The ducklings — affectionately named Mo, Curly and Larry by the fire department — were promptly reunited with her and are expected to make a full recovery.
