SALINE TWP., MI — A rural township board facing pushback over a hyperscale data center to power artificial intelligence near Ann Arbor stopped short of voting Wednesday on a Big Tech giant’s proposal for a tax break.
The Saline Township Board of Trustees is still considering an application submitted by Oracle America Cloud Services LLC for an Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate, or IFEC. The board voted unanimously to postpone taking a vote until a special meeting set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14.
Oracle America applied for a 50% reduction in real and personal property taxes for 12-year tax abatement following completion of construction on the data center for the cloud computing giant and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, located off West Michigan Avenue in the township.
