When Polk County’s Cooper Meyer takes the field in the East-West All-Star Soccer Game on July 21 at Truist Point in High Point, he will continue a long tradition of Wolverine participation in one of North Carolina’s most storied all-star events.
The East-West All-Star Games were founded in 1949 by Bob Jamieson, a coach at Grimsley High School, and Smith Barrier, sports editor of the Greensboro Daily News, to help finance the North Carolina Coaches Association Coaching Clinic. The games feature the best recently graduated players from the eastern and western halves of the state.
Meyer becomes the ninth Polk County soccer player or coach to take part in the East-West games and the 19th Polk County representative across all sports since 1976…
