LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A group of concerned business owners voiced their opposition Thursday to petitions seeking to change how alcohol is sold along a section of Bardstown Road in the Highlands neighborhood.
“We’re asking them that they would retract their petition to put this on the ballot, knowing that it would put 500 people out of work, knowing that it would close 25 businesses, knowing that it would destroy this entire community.” said Sean Vandevander, a spokesperson for the Louisville Hospitality Association.
Last month, three letters of intent to circulate petitions for a local option election were sent to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office. The petitions seek to change three precincts — L170, L171 and L173 — from “wet” to “moist.” That change in distinction would limit liquor sales to restaurants that make at least 70% of their profits from food…
