Spokane’s newest brewery, just east of Browne’s Addition, isn’t about salty pretzels, spicy tacos or any manner of fried food intended to spike one’s thirst. It’s about beer. And beer is something Salt King Brewing owner Aaron Fernald has been interested in ever since he watched his parents make hefeweizen, a Bavarian wheat beer, and amber ale at home while he was in his teens.
Fernald’s parents were participants in America’s homebrewing boom of the 1990s, and he recalls the aroma of carboys, or fermentation vessels, “percolating on the kitchen table” in their Medical Lake home.
