‘You get what you pay for,’ workers of buckled NYC building blast MetroLoft

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) — Dozens of construction workers briefly shut down traffic near the old Pfizer building in Midtown on Thursday, protesting working conditions days before two columns buckled and floors caved in at 235 E 42nd St.

“You get what you pay for,” read a truck sign at the protest on Second Avenue and 43rd Street around noon.

Workers blasted MetroLoft, one of two developers in charge of converting the old office headquarters into a residential complex. They accused the company of downplaying the dangers of the building and hiring contractors that paid “substandard wages.”…
