RAMONA (FOX5/KUSI) — Four rare western spotted skunks are back in the wild after weeks of rehabilitation at the San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center.
The group included an orphaned skunk flown more than 400 miles from Northern California to join other orphaned skunks in Ramona. After reaching key developmental milestones, the skunks were released into a remote habitat in Valley Center.
Wildlife experts say spotted skunks are rarely seen in rehabilitation, unlike the hundreds of striped skunks admitted each year. Socialization played a key role in their recovery, helping the young skunks learn natural behaviors and avoid becoming accustomed to humans…
