Allegiant Air acquires Sun Country Airlines, new routes a possibility for DSM Airport

DES MOINES, Iowa — Two low-cost airlines are now one after a merger deal has been completed, which could add new opportunities for Des Moines International Airport flyers.

Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines are now officially one. Allegiant purchased Sun Country for $1.5 Billion and is now expanding its fleet. Allegiant already leads other airlines out of DSM with 20 non-stop flight destinations.

Allegiant has announced that travelers should see minimal, if any, impact from the merger. The two companies will operate as separate entities for the next 18-24 months before Allegiant assimilates Sun Country.
