They came in 4th with Anthony holding the number 1 spot. I think I know why our little corner of New Mexico is extra safe and I’m pretty sure my reason applies to both cities.
According to safewise.com, Sunland Park and Anthony are among the top 10 – Hell, they made the top 4 actually – safest cities in the land of enchantment. I think I know why and the reason is green. A very mellow green – e stoy hablando de mota.
Neither city is exactly huge but Sunland Park is way bigger than Anthony in population which is probably why Anthony ranked higher. Fewer peeps equals fewer issues.
Why Is Sunland Park New Mexico So Safe?
For the same reason Anthony is I think – pot. Stoners are laid back and most don’t really have the “enthusiasm” to go out and be mean. The difference in their rankings is, as I mentioned, explained mostly by the difference in their populations, 8,900 vs. 18,591.
All The El Pasoans Don’t Count
I say that because, at any given moment, a big chunk of the peeps in either city are probably pot tourists from El Paso. (We pretty much put Sunland Park on top as far as weed sales go.) From there. comes the small town thing.
OK, Maybe There’s Some Science To This
Marijuana aside, neither city is huge so there’s a true sense of community in each. Everybody knows everybody and they watch out for each other. Safewise, however, gathered up a ton of statistical mumbo jumbo to back their claims up…
