‘It’s a band-aid:’ State fills in potholes in Goose Creek neighborhood after years of concerns

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) — Several residents in a rural neighborhood of Goose Creek have been raising concerns about potholes, roads and spotty fixes for years now.

Residents off Mapleridge Drive have been raising the alarm on large potholes and temporary fixes on the streets of Dew Avenue, Linnus Street and Paul Street. However, once Live 5 News reached out to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the holes were filled with asphalt and some streets saw some fixes.

SCDOT said they can confirm that crews repaired potholes on Thursday along Dew Avenue, Linnus Street, Paul Street, and Mapleridge Drive in Berkeley County. Officials said they received maintenance requests from residents in the neighborhood in 2021, 2023 and 2025, and those repairs were completed promptly.

However, residents said not all the holes were always fixed, and they fear they are still just temporary fixes…
