4 Triad counties remain under exceptional drought

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS/WGHP) — The recent rain across parts of North Carolina brought some relief, but it wasn’t enough to significantly improve the state’s ongoing drought.

According to the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council, nine counties around the Triangle and eastern Triad, along with Brunswick County, remain in exceptional drought, the state’s most severe classification. Another 46 counties are in extreme drought, and nine counties are in exceptional drought.

Alamance County cattle farmer struggles amid drought

Four of those nine counties are in the Piedmont Triad: Alamance, Caswell, Guilford and Rockingham Counties.

Officials said reservoirs remain below normal, and rainfall deficits continue across much of the state. Officials said recent rain has reduced outdoor water use, but more is needed.
