First Baptist Church of Landrum to celebrate 100th anniversary of sanctuary

LANDRUM—First Baptist Church of Landrum will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its sanctuary on Sunday, marking a century since the church first worshipped in the building that has served generations of the congregation.

The current sanctuary was completed in June 1926, with the first service held on June 27. A formal dedication followed on July 4, kicking off a 12-day revival. With the completion of the new sanctuary, the congregation officially changed its name from Wolf Creek Baptist Church to First Baptist Church of Landrum.

The church traces its roots back more than two centuries. It began as the Wolfe Creek Society, a mission of Green Creek Church (est. 1796), and first met in a log meeting house near the present-day Interstate 26 corridor between 1803 and 1832.
