Providence murder suspect can be released with electronic monitor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston man accused of being involved in a Providence murder has been granted surety bail with conditions, Target 12 has learned.

Charles Ortiz, 18, has been held without bail since the incident on May 12. He was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, drive-by shooting, conspiracy to commit a drive-by shooting, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and reckless driving.

Police were called to the area of Swift and Silver Spring streets around 2:30 a.m. for a report of a “man down” and found Joseph Ramos, 20, of Woonsocket, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
