Man’s Attempt to Flee Ends in Vehicle Break-In Charge

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing a criminal mischief charge after police say officers witnessed him allegedly breaking into a parked vehicle before he fled on foot.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers were on patrol at approximately 3:30 a.m. July 8 near the intersection of 9th and North Market streets when they observed Joseph Hoffmaster, 38, allegedly breaking into a parked vehicle.

Police said Hoffmaster fled when officers attempted to make contact with him but was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit without further incident…
