Embattled New Orleans landlord Josh Bruno has sued to halt the long-awaited demolition of DeGaulle Manor, claiming that the city’s work to tear down the crumbling complex violates his property rights.
In a filing this week, an attorney for Bruno’s company, Granaio LLC, alleged that the late June lawsuit in bankruptcy court forced a stay on the city’s efforts, but that demolition continued after that date.
The case, filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Florida in Miami, also identifies unnamed contractors and employees who have worked to carry out the city-ordered demolition, which resumed on June 23 after a months-long pause…
