Erie County Holding Center Inmate’s Death Ruled Homicide, Renewing Scrutiny Over Jail After Seventh Death in Recent Years

The death of an inmate inside the Erie County Holding Center is now being investigated as a homicide, marking the latest in a series of inmate deaths that have continued to raise questions about conditions and safety inside the downtown Buffalo jail.

Erie County Sheriff John Garcia announced on Saturday, July 4th that the Erie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Antonio Pizarro who was found unresponsive inside his cell that morning.
