Dangerous Heat Index Values Reaching 103 Degrees in the Upper Peninsula and 100 Degrees Statewide Grip Michigan Including Clare and Grand Rapids Through Friday

MICHIGAN — Monday marks the beginning of another hot and humid stretch of weather across Michigan, with heat indices expected to run in the 90s to low 100s across portions of the state through at least Friday. The extended stretch of dangerous heat prompts warnings for residents to take precautions throughout the week.

Gladstone and Iron River Lead the State in Extreme Heat Index

Gladstone is forecast to see the highest heat index in the state Monday at 103 degrees, with Iron River close behind at 99 degrees. These Upper Peninsula communities are expected to face some of the most intense heat conditions statewide as the hot stretch begins.

Clare in the Lower Peninsula will also reach a dangerous heat index of 100 degrees, keeping much of central Michigan under oppressive conditions.

Grand Rapids and Central Michigan See Widespread 90s

Grand Rapids and Cadillac are both forecast to reach a heat index near 97 to 98 degrees Monday, while Mio and Gaylord will see similar readings in the mid-90s. Kalamazoo and Lansing round out the list of communities expected to reach the low to mid-90s heat index range.

Detroit and Lapeer will see comparatively lower readings in the upper 80s to low 90s, though still hot enough to require caution during outdoor activity.
