BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A new Virginia Historical Marker was unveiled along Catawba Road, recognizing Botetourt County’s place on the legendary TransAmerica Bicycle Trail (USBR 76).
The marker tells the story of Bikecentennial ’76, the cross-country bicycle ride that celebrated America’s Bicentennial and inspired what would become one of the nation’s most iconic cycling routes.
More than 4,000 cyclists rode the original 4,250-mile journey from Virginia to Oregon in the summer of 1976, with Botetourt County serving as a memorable stop along the way…
