Residents across the New Orleans metro area spent part of Saturday under a flash flood warning after heavy rain and strong thunderstorms swept through southeastern Louisiana, bringing rapidly rising water, road closures and hazardous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service issued the warning through 4:15 p.m., citing the potential for dangerous flash flooding as multiple rounds of storms moved across the region. Meteorologists warned that saturated streets and additional rainfall could quickly create life threatening conditions, especially in low-lying neighborhoods and locations with poor drainage.
The warning covered portions of Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes, where forecasters said intense rainfall was expected to continue into the afternoon.
