Deputies use ALPR system to arrest arson suspect after fire ignites in Ellensburg park

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – A 72-year-old Tacoma man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of arson, hours after a fire broke out in Helen McCabe Park, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Authorities attributed the arrest in large part to the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system implemented with Flock cameras throughout the area, claiming that the timing of law enforcement’s response to the incident and their ability to locate a suspect were significantly aided by the technology.

Police were notified around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, July 10, about a fire spreading through Helen McCabe Park, near State Route 821.
