Heavy rain, flood threat increases into the work week

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More rain is on tap for Sunday, but flooding becomes a greater threat for the start of the work week.

Today

Low clouds and a sticky feel to start on Sunday. A few showers on and off until the afternoon heating sparks up, downpours, and storms.

Spots of heavy rain are possible along with lightning and gusty winds.

High temperatures will remain in the low 90s due to the rain and cloud coverage.

Flood threat this week

The risk for flooding increases through the start of the work week to a Slight (Level 2 of 4) risk from the Weather Prediction Center.

A cutoff area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere slowly moves from east to west across Central Texas, leading to multiple rounds of heavy rain.

Widespread rain totals from 1 to 2 inches are possible through Wednesday, with isolated totals higher than 4 inches leading to flash flooding.

The highest rain coverage looks to be on Tuesday, especially in the morning hours during the commute.

Make sure you have ways to receive weather alerts and never drive through flooded roadways.

The temperatures back off into the 80s with the high rain coverage, but rebound to the mid 90s as drier weather takes over later in the week…
