H-E-B Summer of Sharing Tour brings food, supplies to Lubbock families

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – H-E-B brought its trucks to the South Plains Food Bank on Saturday to distribute bags of food and free school supplies to families in need.

The grocer assists cities across Texas but selects three each summer to receive necessities. This year, Lubbock was among those chosen.

More than 1,500 families received produce, meat, and other necessities during the event.

The South Plains Food Bank said donations like this are critical during the summer months, when child hunger increases as students lose access to regular school meals.

“On the South Plains and really across our country, we see a huge uptick in food insecurity over the summer,” said Travis Johnson, South Plains Food Bank chief operations officer. “Somebody in the community that really cares.”

Additional food and school supply drives are expected as the school year approaches. Dates and locations will be posted here at KCBD.com…
