HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi residents are invited to experience Hawaiian history, music and cultural traditions during ʻIolani Palace’s Kamaʻāina Sunday.
The free event will honor Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea and celebrate the 190th anniversary of the Royal Hawaiian Band on Sunday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ʻIolani Palace.
Officials said Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea commemorates the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom’s sovereignty in 1843. This year’s celebration will also recognize the Royal Hawaiian Band, which was founded in 1836 by King Kamehameha III and remains one of Hawaiʻi’s oldest and most treasured musical organizations.
