4 things to know about the weather:
- Mother Nature is finally giving the DMV a break. Lower humidity and seasonably mild temperatures make Monday one of the nicest days we’ve had in quite a while.
- Monday and Tuesday will feel like bonus days of summer, with comfortable mornings, warm afternoons and very little weather-related drama.
- The atmosphere flips the script by midweek as a strengthening heat dome pumps temperatures back into the upper 90s with heat index values pushing past 100°.
- Wednesday and Thursday look like the hottest days of the week before a few late-day storms try to sneak back into the forecast by Friday.
After what feels like an endless run of heat and tropical humidity, the atmosphere is finally cutting us some slack. Monday and Tuesday will feature noticeably drier air, comfortable mornings, and warm afternoons that are much easier to handle than what we’ve been dealing with lately. Think of it as a brief “summer vacation” from summer itself.
Don’t get too attached, though.
The upper-level ridge responsible for so much heat across parts of the country expands eastward during the middle of the week. As that ridge strengthens over the Mid-Atlantic, the mercury climbs and humidity begins creeping back into the picture. By Wednesday and Thursday, we’re talking about a classic D.C. summer setup with blazing sunshine, upper 90s, and heat index values well into the triple digits. Late week may feature a few pop-up thunderstorms, but they won’t do much to knock the heat down…
