Posey County residents show united front against data centers

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — A throng of Posey County residents spilled into an overflow room Thursday evening as they waited close to four hours for their chance to say one thing — no data centers in our community.

Nearly everyone in the room was wearing a red shirt, a visual showing of support for a movement to “Protect Posey County.” Some of the shirts were emblazoned with “No Data Center,” a large stop emblem taking the place of the “o.”

The Posey County Board of Zoning Appeals and the area plan commission both had data centers items on their agendas with meetings set for 5 and 6 p.m., respectively. Though the BZA pushed its data center talk in lieu of the APC’s, some members of the public still spoke during time for a citizen comment, though most waited until nearly 9 p.m. for their chance…
