Alabama Trucking Association warns drivers to slow down, avoid distractions during Operation Safe Driver Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Drivers across Alabama, both in commercial trucks and passenger vehicles, could see extra enforcement on the roads as the Alabama Trucking Association highlights Operation Safe Driver Week.

ATA says Operation Safe Driver Week is a high-visibility enforcement and education effort focused this year on reckless and careless driving.

That includes behaviors such as:

  • Speeding
  • Following too close
  • Improper lane changes
  • Distracted driving
  • Ignoring traffic control devices

The association says the campaign applies to all drivers, but notes traffic stops can carry added consequences for professional truck drivers. ATA says moving violations can remain on a driver’s record for up to 24 months and may affect carrier safety scores…
