COLUMBIA, S.C. (WDBJ) – Trailing 3-0 in the top 7th, the Salem Ridgeyaks starting swinging a big stick, and came out with an 8-4 win in 10 innings over the Columbia Fireflies.
Ilan Fernandez had two homeruns for Salem (36-50). The first in the 7th inning, a solo HR that left Segra Park to get Salem on the board. Needing two runs in the 9th, Salem got an RBI double from Andruw Musett, followed by an RBI single from Fernandez to make it a 3-3 game, forcing extra innings.
In the 10th, Columbia (43-44) got two quick outs, but with a runner on second, Starlyn Nunez blasted his 10th home run of the season out of the park to right field that gave Salem a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. For added insurance, Ilan Fernandez hit home run #2 of the game for him just over the wall in left for a three run shot that plated Musett and Justin Barry.
