TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo police officer was taken to a hospital Friday morning after his cruiser fell into a hole on Asbury Drive during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The two suspects were later located and arrested, and police say both had active felony warrants.
The pursuit
Toledo police officials said an officer identified a stolen black GMC Terrain around 9 a.m. Friday. The officer attempted to stop the driver, but the driver fled, leading the officer on a chase. The pursuit continued onto Asbury Drive, where the Water Department had removed a portion of the road. The driver of the stolen vehicle cleared the area, but the officer’s cruiser did not.
Police later located the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Phillips and Fairview. The driver and passenger were found and arrested shortly after.
The suspects
Toledo Police Department identified the driver as 59-year-old George Campbell III and the passenger as 42-year-old Lindsay Campbell. Police said both were involved in a separate police chase less than two weeks ago that ended in a rollover crash. Police reports indicate both were hospitalized in that crash with life-threatening injuries. George Campbell was charged with failure to comply on June 28.
Neighborhood reaction
Samantha Barnhill, who has lived on Asbury Drive for nearly a year, said she was unsettled by how close the pursuit came to her home.
“That is very scary,” Barnhill said. “You don’t know if they’re either going to come up on the curb or anything. Say, if your kids are down that way, and you are on your porch, you don’t have time enough to run to your child.”…
