Records show history of AC problems in patrol vehicle used before K-9 Leonidas’ heat death

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WRGB) — Newly obtained maintenance records are raising questions about the history of the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle K-9 Leonidas was in when he suffered fatal heat exhaustion earlier this month.

According to the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, Leonidas’ handler, Deputy Daniel Coppola, was working inside the sheriff’s office while the K-9 was left in the running patrol vehicle with the air conditioning on and functioning.

Records obtained by CBS6 show the 10-year-old Chevrolet Tahoe had repeatedly undergone repairs related to its air conditioning system, including two trips to the county garage roughly a month before Leonidas’ July 2 death…
