- Shocking footage shows ICE officers handcuffing man after allegedly fatally shooting him (themirror.com)
Graphic video has emerged showing the moment ICE agents handcuffed a man in Biddeford, Maine, shortly after a fatal shooting on Monday.
The footage depicts two agents pulling an unresponsive man from a white sedan and placing him face down before restraining him with handcuffs, while a third agent approaches the scene on a phone. According to eyewitness accounts, agents in green police vests had been pursuing the vehicle when they used their SUV to strike its passenger side.
Agents surrounded the car with firearms drawn, and when the driver failed to comply with orders to exit, they fired at the vehicle, according to reports from the Bangor Daily News. The shooting prompted several protests against ICE later that day.
In response, Maine political leaders quickly addressed the incident. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau acknowledged the involvement of ICE and confirmed that state police were on site, with the FBI expected to launch an investigation. Governor Janet Mills said she had been briefed on the federal law enforcement action.
Senator Susan Collins called for a “full and impartial investigation” into the shooting. While the victim’s identity has not been officially released, advocacy groups including the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition indicated he was a 26-year-old Colombian man authorized to work in the U.S. The coalition described him as a valued community member and extended condolences to his family.
This incident follows a similar fatal shooting just days earlier when ICE agents killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, during a traffic stop. DHS stated the operation targeted a vehicle with a suspect resembling their person of interest and claimed the shooting was in self-defense. However, family members and passengers dispute this account, highlighting that officers involved were not equipped with body cameras, and no evidence from the scene has been publicly released.
The recent events have raised significant concerns about ICE’s use of force and transparency in enforcement actions, drawing attention from both local communities and state officials. Investigations into both shootings are ongoing.
