Migrant Linked to American Moms Murder in Ireland Arrested in Jordan

Additional Coverage:

Authorities in Jordan have detained a man linked to the murder investigation of an American woman in Ireland, marking a significant development in a case that has captured international attention.

The individual, described by Irish police as a “person of interest,” was arrested by Jordan’s Public Security Directorate within the past 48 hours after returning to his home country. Irish officials were notified of the arrest on Monday, according to reports from the Irish Mirror. While Irish police confirmed awareness of the detention to Fox News Digital, they have not publicly confirmed the man’s identity or directly linked him to the investigation.

The case centers on the tragic death of Jamey Carney, 43, a New York native who relocated to Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, in 2021. Carney was found deceased in her home after suffering suffocation and head injuries. Authorities believe the fatal attack occurred late Monday evening, hours before her 13-year-old daughter discovered her body the following afternoon.

The suspect had reportedly been refused asylum in Ireland but remained in the country while appealing the decision. He retained his passport, allowing him to depart Ireland prior to the discovery of Carney’s body. After the alleged attack, he traveled approximately 200 miles by bus to Dublin Airport and flew to Istanbul, sparking an international search that eventually led to his arrest in Jordan.

Reports indicate the man and Carney were in a relationship, with the suspect expressing intentions to seek residency in the United States, allegedly with Carney’s assistance. He arrived in Ireland in 2024 amid an increased influx of migrants and had worked in hospitality and construction sectors before their association.

Ireland does not have an extradition treaty with Jordan, complicating potential legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the FBI has stated it stands ready to assist Irish authorities if requested and is monitoring the case closely through established channels.

Irish police have refrained from releasing the suspect’s name or image, a decision that has faced criticism from some political figures and former law enforcement officials. The investigation continues, with authorities coordinating internationally to ensure thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
