GRPD bodycam: Rowdy crowd slows first responders helping shot man

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Newly released GRPD bodycam footage shows first responders struggling to reach a man with multiple gunshot wounds amid a chaotic scene following an early morning shooting on July 5.

Four people, including a teenager, were injured after shots rang out during a large gathering around Prospect Avenue on the southeast side of the city around 1:30 a.m. Days after the shooting, GRPD Chief Joe Trigg told News 8 that the investigation into the incident was ongoing, but that early response efforts had been hampered by a “challenging” crowd.

In a statement released Monday morning, GRPD said officers encountered “hostile crowds and people refusing to clear the way for the ambulance” as they rendered aid to a man with “life-threatening injuries.”…
