Eaton County Fair marks 171st year in Charlotte

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Eaton County Fair is back in Charlotte for the 171st year, with the pre-fair events kicking off on Saturday.

The fair is a week-long and is packed with activities and events and this morning at nine, they will have the goat show.

In addition, there’s a couple new additions this year; they include motorhome derby, a blacksmith, chainsaw carving, and a comedy magic show. Peter Farrell, the Vice President of the Eaton County Fairgrounds Board, says that the volunteer-run fair is very community-based. Farrell started volunteering after his daughter participated and showed some of her pigs. Now, he’s a part of planning the events.

“The biggest thing is for the kids – they get educated with these animals, you know. If you want to learn about these animals, you can come down and talk to these kids about it. They work pretty hard at it,” says Farrell. “The responsibility that comes with it is pretty inspiring.”

Tonight, there will be a rodeo, along with country music entertainment performed by DeWayne Spaw. Other livestock shows will be happening throughout the week, as well as the typical carnival rides, games, and food…
