DES MOINES, Iowa — The Street Maintenance Division of the Des Moines Public Works Department is hoping to reduce the cost of road construction by reusing old roads.
This month, the city kicked off an initiative to recycle materials like asphalt, concrete, and dirt to use in street maintenance projects. Operations Manager Jim Scott said the city signed a one-year deal with the contractor of around $100,000, but he says there is an option to extend the contract for up to five years.
