North Texas Sees Widely Varied Rainfall Totals Up to 6.28 Inches in Henderson County With More Scattered Rain Expected Today

NORTH TEXAS — A soaking round of rainfall swept across North Texas over the past 24 hours, with totals varying dramatically from county to county. Henderson County topped the region with 6.28 inches, while other areas picked up substantial rain without any severe weather. Additional scattered rain is expected today, with the highest coverage favoring areas south of Interstate 20.

Highest Totals Concentrated South and East of Dallas-Fort Worth

The heaviest rainfall fell across Henderson County, which recorded 6.28 inches, followed by Hill County with 5.79 inches. Denton County also saw a substantial 5.21 inches, while Hopkins County near Sulphur Springs picked up 4.44 inches.

Closer to the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, Tarrant County recorded 3.65 inches, Collin County saw 3.37 inches, and Dallas County picked up 3.10 inches. Multi-sensor rainfall estimates show the most intense cores tracking near Athens, Fort Worth, and areas south of Denton.

Rainfall Was Extremely Localized Even Within the Same County

Despite the impressive totals, rainfall was far from uniform, even within individual counties. Northern Denton County saw no rain at all, while Southern Denton County received nearly half a foot during the same 24-hour period.

This kind of sharp contrast highlights how convective rain bands can drench one community while leaving a nearby town completely dry, a pattern that played out repeatedly across the region overnight.

No Severe Weather Reported Despite Heavy Totals

Forecasters emphasized that the heavy rainfall occurred without any severe weather, meaning the region avoided damaging winds, large hail, or tornado threats while still receiving beneficial and, in some spots, excessive rain.

More Scattered Rain Expected Today South of I-20

Additional scattered rain is forecast across North Texas today, with the greatest coverage expected south of Interstate 20, including areas near Cleburne, Corsicana, and Athens. Communities north of that line, including Denton, Gainesville, and Bonham, may see lighter and more isolated activity in comparison…
