Former school board member returns to public service

WARREN/STERLING HEIGHTS — On July 1, three candidates interviewed for a vacancy on the Warren Consolidated Schools Board of Education.

After much discussion, the school board voted 6-0 to appoint Kyle Johnson to the seat. Johnson is in familiar territory because he had already served on the school board from November 2022 to September 2025.

Johnson stepped down last fall from elected office to take a job working for U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Michigan. After several months, he changed his mind about the position, which opened the door to return to the school board.

“All of my reasons to want to serve on the board are still the exact same as they were years ago,” he said. “It’s to take care of the students in this district, the faculty and the staff, and make sure this is an environment in which everyone is protected and they have a place to call home.”…
