FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — As another stretch of 90-degree temperatures moves into northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne officials are encouraging residents to revisit the results of the city’s first urban heat study and take advantage of resources designed to help people stay safe during extreme heat.
The study, conducted in 2024 and released last year, found an eight-degree difference between the coolest and hottest parts of Fort Wayne.

City leaders said northwest Fort Wayne, where industrial development, pavement and limited tree cover are concentrated, ranked among the warmest areas, while greener neighborhoods in the southern part of the city consistently measured cooler.
