Tigers from former Kirshner wildlife park relocated to sanctuaries

OROVILLE, Calif. — Several tigers once kept at the former Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation in Oroville have been relocated to accredited animal sanctuaries and the Oakland Zoo, the latest development in the years-long fallout surrounding the shuttered roadside zoo.

The Oakland Zoo said five tigers were transferred after a private owner contacted the zoo seeking help finding permanent placements. The effort was coordinated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the Performing Animal Welfare Society in California and Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas.
