FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) — Extreme heat adds stress to firefighters responding to any call, and the Freeport Fire Department has adjusted its operations to keep crews safe during mid-summer heatwaves.
Lt. Ernest Stabenow III said the department takes precautions from the moment a call comes in.
“We plan ahead. We keep them out of the sun, obviously, when it’s as hot. We pack extra cold packs and anything like that. Immediately, we take their temperature on any call on a day like today, just so we know,” Stabenow said…
