We are under the influence of a high pressure system to the north of us. With more of an easterly component to our wind flow, temperatures will be reasonable and not absurdly hot. Heat alerts are stretched across the Upper Midwest, Northern Plains and the Northern Rockies.
Highs from the upper 80s to the lower 90s will be quite common for Kansas through the middle of this week. Winds will also stay light through midweek.
There is a low pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere that will work through the Southern Plains on Wednesday. This may be enough to drive an isolated shower or storm over Southern Kansas Wednesday afternoon into the evening. Otherwise, we are grasping at straws to try and get any moisture this week.
The high pressure system, also known as the Heat Dome, is drawn more our way late this week and into the weekend. This will enable temperatures to climb a few more degrees into the middle and upper 90s. Humidity values will be a touch higher over the Flint Hills and drier into the west. Winds are expected to increase slightly by the end of this week and over the weekend.
